Like car insurance, van insurance is also compulsory. Van drivers are considered more risky by the insurance companies than car drivers. The reason for this discrimination is that the van driver spends more time on the road as compared to the car drivers. On an average, a typical van driver is on the road for more than 40 hours a week. Secondly the chances of an accident for van drivers are more than car drivers. Due to these reasons, cheap van insurance is hard to find.

When insuring vans, the insurance companies look at the kind of van you are driving, its mileage and the condition of the van like how old it is. Other factors influencing van insurance are the number of hours you would be using it and whether you are driving the van for personal use or for commercial purpose. Commercial van insurance is of two types (i) for a single van; (ii) for a fleet of vans. For the single van, the insurance largely depends on the size of the van and its load carrying capacity. For a fleet of vans, the Fleet insurance is recommended. It covers each and every van in your possession.

Like car drivers, van drivers can also avail the various discounts offered by the insurance companies to get cheap van insurance. Some of the points which go in your favor are if you are a member of the “Roadside Assistance Program”, you have taken a defensive driving course for safe driving, your workplace is near your home etc. These points can easily get you cheap van insurance. Other things that can benefit you are your credit card record and of course you’re driving history. If in case there are some small repairs to be done than it is better to pay from them from your wallet rather than making a claim. Some insurance companies give a discount if you have not made a claim in the past two years. It is up to you to make use of the discounts to get cheap van insurance.
